| This is where Peregrine started its life over 15 years ago. Both Tim and Dave (the original two partners in the company) have a long standing interest in Entomology and Herpetology and have kept and bred many species over the years. Our original aim was to establish a breeding centre to provide all of our own captive bred stock. However it quickly became clear that this was not going to be possible as the demand for quality, captive bred livestock was far in excess of what we could breed ourselves. Today we use many sources to obtain livestock both here in the UK and abroad. Our own breeding programmes, Private and Commercial breeders and members of our associate breeding programmes all form vital parts of our captive bred livestock supply network, As a company our policy is clear. We aim to have 99% of the livestock on our list sourced from captive breeding. Any wild caught (including so called "captive farmed") species that are offered by us will be hardy, easy to keep species that have a track record of establishing well in captivity. They will also be of a quality that is comparable to captive bred stock. We do not object to wild caught animals but feel that it should be carried out in a way that respects the animal, the environment and the local community. Collecting should also be carried our in a sustainable manner. We also believe that it is the responsibility of the specialist suppliers, like ourselves, to provide a clear example of responsible trading. For this reason we do not supply species which we consider unsuitable for the average keeper. Such species include Green Iguana, African Rock Python, Burmese Python, Green Anaconda, Large Monitors, Species listed on the Dangerous Wild Animals Act, etc. We can source many specialist species but treat each request individually and would require clear indications that the individuals were aware of the responsibility they were taking on. |
