Dry and canned foods do have some advantages over natural foods. They are available all the time, can be stored for long periods and are usually a complete balanced food with added vitamins and minerals. They are also advantages to using natural food, many animals will not eat prepared food as it does not resemble the natural diet, natural food may stimulate hunting or foraging behaviour which helps to keep the animal active and stimulated and natural foods often contain trace elements that are not found in prepared diets. Most people do not use prepared foods as the sole food source for their animals but instead use them to make up a proportion of the total diet or as an emergency supply.
